RIM’s Blackberry Curve 8520 is well known as one of the lowest costing QWERTY phone on the block and is a handy option for on budget users. This budget cut is felt prominently at points and the overall design and look of the phone seems compromised, one such feature is the absence of a metal backplate replaced by a shiny plastic cover, though it feels compact and slipping into the smallest of the pockets is no problem, much is left desired of the device.

Another differentiating feature is the presence of an optical pad for navigational purposes which prove to be useful and very easy to use. With dimensions measuring at 60 X 109 X 14 mm, and weighing 106 g the top of the phone is adorned with media buttons whereas the side holds the camera, volume and voice control buttons. The 3.5 mm headphone Jack is also placed on the side.

The QWERTY keyboard is at its best providing excellent usability and keys are prompt to respond which totally compliments the small size of the keyboard.  It also acts as an excellent messaging feature and acts great for social networkers. Another rocking feature is the push email which enables you to access emails as you receive them rather than waiting for the inbox to update.

Like almost all other Blackberrys the 2.6 inch 320 x 240 pixel resolution screen offers bright and fairly sharp images.  The 2 mega pixel camera lacks a flash, so snapping shots is less than satisfactory though video shooting quality is quite watchable.

The Blackberry OS is sensitive enough with the neat and large menu icons and is fairly easy to handle with the 512 MHz processor quickly responding to the inputs and the 256MB RAM’s minimal storage space can be upped by a microSD card of up to 16 GB.
